High on Soda

Water in my building is out today because of nearby construction on a water main. I examined by choice of beverages in the vending machines. $1.25 for 20oz of water, soda or orange juice. Seventy-five cents for a 12oz can of Coke products or 60¢ for a 12oz can of Pepsi products. I spent the big bucks and got water. About two hours later I was thirsty again but didn’t quite have enough to “splurge” on another water. I got a soda.

The intake of soda was a shock to my system, you see, I've started to change my diet. I'm eating six times a day and cutting a lot of calories and fat. I'm eating more whole grains, fruits and veggies. I'm cut way down on soda. I used to drink 2-3 cans of soda a day. Now I go two or three days without having one.

Since I started this change last Thursday I've noticed how cheep and easy it is to eat high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie foods. I’ve never paid much attention to the Nutrition labels on the stuff I eat. Even when I did look at that info I didn’t understand it.

Another disturbing revelation is how much fat and calories I’ve been eating. If you’re in the mood, I suggest checking out Fatcalories.com. It lists Nutrition info for the most popular fast food joints. Next time I order fast food, I’ll order off the kid’s menu!
